Another dream project: Who knew that one of the world’s finest malt producers is right in our own backyard? Of course we all know about the great beer producers in the Northwest. But what we forget is that every brewer needs great ingredients. Great Western Malting supplies some the best-known brewers worldwide. We had the opportunity to work with Jessica Bernert at Pail Design whose firm was responsible for Great Western’s Global rebranding effort. I’ve only seen snippets of the results so far, but it’s clear that Pail has taken Great Western’s brand from so-so to spectacular. Anyone in the beverage business who needs branding or design talent should certainly explore working with Pail.
The Russian Tea Experience at Headwaters is blowing up. Reservations over the holidays were completely full, and everyone I’ve talked to says it’s incredible. John shot these last Fall, right as the renovations on Headwaters were finishing up.
Each year, Oregon hosts a Truffle Festival at which guests learn about, eat and enjoy Oregon-grown truffles in all kinds of preparations. By far, my favorite part is the truffle hunting dogs. This year we photographed the panel discussions and celebration dinner at Youngberg Hill. Last year, Angela Estate hosted this group for the truffle hunt in the woods near their vineyards.
Working with Carman Ranch is an opportunity to do what we’re very best at. Cory Carman and her family have such passion for their work–and what John excels at is digging in, exploring with his camera and then finding a way to express that passion in a way that’s beautiful, informative and compelling. We visited the Wallowas in the late Autumn to capture the places and processes that make Carman Ranch so special.
Last Summer, we worked with the team at L’Angolo Estate on photos of their gorgeous new tasting room. Savvy Andrew Henschied of Pine Black Consulting oversaw the art direction and website project which you can see at their website https://www.langoloestate.com/. We spent one very long day, getting up in time to catch the sunrise. The project covered vineyard views, shots in the production areas, portraits, lifestyle images with models and portraits of the winemaker, Chase Renton.
I’m super excited to see our photos in the current issue of Gluten Free Forever magazine. These were both such fun projects to work on. First, a story featuring Troy McLarty of Bollywood Theater fame, and another travel story highlighting all the terrific gluten free offerings in Portland. You can learn more about the magazine at the GFF website. With dozens of locations to visit, some of the highlights for me were The Broth Bar, New Cascadia Bakery, Ground Breaker Brewing, and Harlow. And it was nice to see our superstars, Imperial and Ox mentioned as well. Portland, Oregon is truly headquarters for all kinds of great food.
